1891
Opening of the first Bon Génie in Geneva! Before becoming a fashion speciality store, the Bon Génie was a kind of bazaar where everything but fashion was sold! During this time, on the other side of the Saane, Seiden Grieder was celebrating already 2 years of existence...
Where does the name “Bon Génie“ come from? Apparently, this was a very popular concept in the 19th century folklore. Or maybe Adolphe Brunschwig drew inspiration from a children's newspaper called “Le Bon Génie“ (the Good Genius)?
BON GENIE and GRIEDER: 2 founders with the same name, moved by the same passion for trade and beauty: Adolphe Brunschwig and Adolf Grieder!

The first store in Lausanne was initially called “À la Ménagère“ (“For the housewife“). As a matter of fact, the name “Bon Génie“ was already taken by another store. The store was renamed “Aux Nouveautés“ (“Novelties“) in 1947. It was not until 1967 that it could finally take the name “Bon Génie“.

The success has led to the opening of a second BG Café in Lausanne and of the Griederbar with its terrace and its view over the Paradeplatz in Zurich in 2002. In 2024, BG Café will adopt the name Bongénie Café following the rebranding. As for the Griederbar, it will be replaced by the new bistronomic restaurant “Émile“, in homage to the grandfather of the 4th generation Brunschwig. The story continues with the upcoming move of the Grieder store in Zurich at Bahnhofstrasse 3. Bongénie Grieder is moving out of the historic “Grieder“ building in Zurich, and is taking this opportunity to unify the Bongénie brand throughout Switzerland. Grieder thus becomes Bongénie in Zurich and all the other stores. The move was an opportunity to create a new shop, tailor-made, welcoming and adapted to the unique experience that Bongénie wants to offer its customers.
With the arrival of the 5th generation at the helm, the Brunschwig Group wanted to breathe new life into the company and decided to give its brands a new visual identity. The aim was to create consistency with its strategic positioning and convey its vision and elegant attitude. A further goal is to become instantly recognisable, while addressing target groups with relevance. In this way, the company is seeking to increase its appeal and position itself in relation to its competitors and the market.
This new identity is reflected in the presentation of a new, more contemporary logo with refined typography, and a new, more intense Signature Blue colour. Finally, a new “B“ monogram consolidates the visual identity.
In line with its new image, Bongénie also unveils new online shops, bongenie.ch and outlet.bongenie.ch, combining aesthetics and fluid navigation to enhance the omnichannel customer experience.
